At some point in the recent past the final stage of an historical transition took place within the discipline of painting. This event was nothing short of a paradigm shift, as momentous as previous evolutionary developments from cave to church to canvas.

After many stops and starts the discipline of painting has completed the final stage of its self sublimation, trading traditional concerns with the image and picturing, in favour of an intense interest in its own object status.

‘Expanded Painting : Ontological Aesthetics and the Essence of Colour’, published by Bloomsbury in 2017, defines the term and traces an historical drive towards a totally unexpected future for painting, as well as its implications for all the arts.
